The French midfielder will join the LaLiga side on a season-long loan deal

Roma have today confirmed that they've reached an agreement with Sevilla for Maxime Gonalons to spend this season on loan at the LaLiga club.

"The club can confirm that midfielder Maxime Gonalons has joined Sevilla on a season-long loan deal. The agreement with the Spanish club runs until 30 June 2019," is what an official statement from Roma said.

The 29-year-old Gonalons will leave Roma after just one season. He played 23 matches and helped the club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, as well finishing third in Serie A.

Gonalons came through the ranks at Olympique de Lyon and was eventually made captain at the Ligue 1 side. He won the French Cup and a French Super Cup during his time there.

After being replaced by Steven N'Zonzi at Roma, he'll now be tasked with replacing his fellow countryman at Sevilla.

The transfer window has closed in Italy but they are still able to sell and loan out players to teams in countries where the transfer market remains open, as is the case with Spain.
