The Valencia manager accepts that overhauling the squad will take time

"On 31 August we will have a squad more like the one we want"

Marcelino García Toral, the Valencia manager, has said that he is aware that the planned overhaul of the club’s squad will take time and therefore he is not worried with the amount of work to be done.

“There have been a lot of players leaving and quite a few coming in. I said that if we get to 23 August and we are still in the same situation, I will be worried. But I don’t think that will be the case,” the manager added.

“As the days go by, we will close deals and the squad will take shape,” he told the press after his team’s friendly against FC Cincinnati in the USA. “We know what we want and what it will cost. To get the players we want because we think they will give us a step up in terms of quality, requires time, a bit of luck and a lot of work,” he added. Nevertheless, he was confident that Valencia will have a squad closer to the one they want by 31 August.

With regard to the club’s tour to the US and Canada, the new manager said it was difficult to play in these countries. "It was a day’s travelling. In 48 hours we play a match on a pitch that’s not fit to play on. We’ve had two injuries and in the game we had another”. The team has played two games on artificial surfaces and has barely been able to train so Marcelino is looking forward to getting back to Spain.
