Villarreal sacked Calleja on Monday with the side one place above the drop

Luis García is the top target to replace Javi Calleja as Villarreal coach. He will meet with the club on Monday to discuss taking over the team.

He is currently out of work after spending two seasons in charge of Beijing Renhe in the Chinese Super League. His past experience includes working in LaLiga. In 2008, he worked at Levante and in 2011 he took over Getafe, before leaving to coach Baniyas SC in the UAE.

In addition, he also knows his new club. He spent the 2005/06 season in charge of Villarreal B. If he does now take over the first team, his first game will be on Thursday in the Europa League. Villarreal are top of the group and their final game is against Spartak Moscow.

Luis Garcia took Levante into La Liga and will now face another big challenge: helping Villarreal's sinking submarine avoide relegation to the second division. They're currently just three points above the relegation zone.
