LaLiga chief Tebas: Friends call me Xavi, I have a Catalan-speaking family

Javier Tebas was speaking an an event in Barcelona on Thursday

At the 'Foros de Vanguardia' event to discuss the European football ecosystem model, the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, revealed a detail about his personal life that was completely unknown. It was at the end of the talk that he revealed that his real name is Xavi and not Javi.

The LaLiga chief explained that part of his family has Catalan origins and that when he was born -- he was born in Costa Rica -- and they went to register him at the Spanish embassy, they wrote his name with an X and not with a J, as almost everyone else calls him.

"At home and with my friends at school they call me Xavi. I have a Catalan-speaking family," he said in front of an audience that was probably totally surprised.

The revelation is even more surprising because Tebas has always been very opposed to the independence process that took place in Catalonia in 2017 and whenever he was asked about it he insisted that if independence was achieved Barça would not play in the Spanish league.
