Kepa Arrizabalaga: I had offers to leave Athletic Bilbao
The goalkeeper was linked with Real Madrid but renewed his contract
Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga ended the soap opera and signed a new contract with the club on Monday, until 2025. The stopper came by the club offices to make the deal official, and while there he said that he had been given offers from other sides, but he considered it best for him to stay at Athletic.
"Given my contract ended this summer from January 1 I was free to negotiate with other sides. There were offers but I believe the best thing for me was to stay at Athletic for a long time and I am very happy to sign this contract," he said. Kepa admitted he had taken a long time to sign on but he "likes to think about things and analyse everything before taking a decision."
"Those that are close to me and who know me best know that I am a person that likes to think a lot and analyse everything before making a decision. I took my time and I want to show my gratitude to the club who respected me taking time to reach my decision."
