The first team to be promoted to Spain's top flight this season has been confirmed

Huesca won 2-0 at Lugo on Monday to seal an historic promotion to La Liga, earning a place in Spain's top flight for the first time ever.

In their third consecutive season in the second division, the eighth in their existence, they took the first chance they were given to book their place among the elite.

Alex Gallar and Jorge Pulido scored the goals as Huesca, with one of the lowest budgets in the league, wrapped up promotion.

The Aragon-based side's home stadium holds just 5,500 supporters, so they will rival Eibar for being the smallest club in La Liga.

Coach Rubi, formerly of Girona and Barcelona, where he worked on Tito Vilanova's staff, has been linked with the vacancy at Espanyol.

There's one automatic spot still up for grabs, with Rayo Vallecano likely to get it ahead of Sporting Gijon, who look like they will be in the playoffs with Real Zaragoza and another two teams from a potential five.
