Fans will return to stadiums this season but local governments will have final say

Spain's Minister for Health Carolina Darias has confirmed that sporting competitions can have crowds in the month of August.

Darias explained that open air stadiums can have up to 40 percent of their capacity and closed areans can have up to 30 percent.

The rules will come into place on Aug. 13, coinciding with the start of La Liga that weekend, and will run until Aug. 29, when the situation will be reassessed.

Supporters must still comply with social distancing rules, maintaining 1.5m distance between themselves and other fans in and around the stadium.

However, the final decision is now likely to lie with regional governments. The Catalan government stepped back on allowing 20,000 fans into Camp Nou for the Joan Gamper Trophy recently.
