The striker will have his fifth metatarsal operated on after suffering from discomfort in his foot over the past few weeks

Diego Costa will travel to Brazil this Monday to undergo surgery on his foot according to Onda Cero's 'El Transistor' radio show. The striker has decided surgery is the best option to overcome the discomfort he's been playing with in recent weeks.

Costa asked to play against Girona and Simeone allowed it, although the striker has since decided to resolve the issue rather than working around it.

The striker, who was important in his team scoring against Girona, tried to hide his pain but was seen limping off the pitch.

Atletico's medical team agree and understand the best choice for the striker is to have surgery in Brazil.

Costa is expected to be out of action for 10 weeks although the winter break will see the amount of games he misses reduced.

These are the seven matches he is expeced to miss out on in LaLiga: Alavés, Valladolid, Espanyol, Sevilla, Levante, Huesca and Getafe. He'll also miss at least the contest with Brugge in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey tie with Sant Andreu.
