Cristiano Ronaldo wants to be remembered as the best ever footballer

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said he wants to be remembered as the best football player of all time.

The Portuguese international was talking at the ceremony where he was presented the Golden Shoe for his 31 strikes in la Liga last season - an award he shared with Barcelona's Luis Suarez.

"I don't want to just be the best player from Portugal," Ronaldo explained.

"I want to be the best of all time and I am going to work towards it.

"There is still a lot to do, but when my career ends I want to see my stats and see that I am among the best ever.

"And I am sure that I am going to be."

Presenting the award, Florentino Perez described Ronaldo as "the best footballer in the world" and said he is a "worthy heir" to Alfredo Di Stefano, who died earlier this year.

"Cristiano has demonstrated that he belongs in the legends category," Perez opined.

"He is an example of professionalism, as he demonstrates through his behaviour, and he has immense talent."
