Barcelona's title hopes given boost as Atletico Madrid held by Getafe

Diego Simeone's side drew 0-0 with 10-man Getafe on Saturday night

Barcelona have the chance to cut the gap on Atletico Madrid to four points at the top of La Liga after the leaders were held by Getafe on Saturday.

Getafe had Allan Nyom sent off in the second half byt Diego Simeone's side couldn't find a way past the home team and the match ended goalless.

The point moves Atletico seven clear of Barça, but the Blaugrana can reduce the different to four if they win their game in hand at Camp Nou against Huesca on Monday.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are now within six points of Atletico after Karim Benzema's late brace helped them beat Elche 2-1 earlier on Saturday.

Atletico threw everything at Getafe after Nyom's red card but couldn't beat David Soria.

Luis Suarez came close with a chipped effort that hit the post, while Marcos Llorente and substitute Moussa Dembele also had chances.

Barça are 16 games unbeaten in the league and can ramp up the pressure on Atletico on Monday with a win at Camp Nou to continue their impressive form in 2021.
