The player's lawyers deposited the 65 million euro release fee clause off

French defender Aymetic Laporte is a Manchester City player. His lawyers paid the 65m euros release fee clause to free him from his Athletic Bilbao deal on Monday and he will be presented as the latest player to join Pep Guardiola's side on Tuesday.

Laporte becomes a record signing for the club at £57m - Kevin De Bruyne cost £55m. He is also the second most expensive defender in history, behind Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk (£75m).

“I want to thank you for everything you have given me,” said Laporte.

“I arrived as a teenager and here I have grown into a person and a football player. I don’t want my departure, ahead of a new challenge in my professional career, to be a goodbye but a see you soon. Here I leave a unique, different club, and one I will never forget.”
