The executive committee have agreed to introduce VAR into the competition from February 2019

This Monday UEFA's executive committee, taking advantage of the celebration of the Euro 2020 draw, have given the green light to VAR being introduced to this season's Champions League. To be more precise, it'll be used from February 2019 when the knockout stages begin.

VAR is already used in many of Europe's biggest leagues such as Spain, Italy, France and Germany. The only major league not to use VAR this season is England's Premier League.

Portugal, Holland and Turkey also use VAR.

And this is why Rosetti had the backing of a host of referees to bring the technology in for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

They will continue to help referees working in leagues without VAR

Alongside that decision by the executive committee, UEFA are continuing with their plan to roll out VAR for next season's Champions League at the group stage of the competition.

As revealed by SPORT a few days ago, UEFA have planned an intensive course to prepare the 17 referees who are currently working in leagues which don't use the technology.

That is why in just a month and a half there will be four of these courses. Two will take place in Holland, one in Spain and the other in Turkey.

Initially, according to SPORT's sources, there aren't any more plans for additional courses until February. This could be an important if UEFA confirm what is already known behind the scenes, that VAR is coming very soon to the Champions League.
