UEFA & ECA strike agreement: LaLiga in July, Champions League in August
Games will be played behind closed doors but there's hope of a return this summer
Cadena SER have revealed that UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA) have reached an agreement in principle for football to return in July.
The talks, pending a meeting to finalise the agreement, are based on the possibility that the LaLiga season is completed in July and the Champions League then takes place in August.
The priority is that all competitions are able to be completed this season. Various options have been studied and there could be further changes due to the logistics of the competitions.
However, all the discussed scenarios count on one common denominator: football will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic when it does first return.
That measure will not surprise everyone, given it would be inadvisable to open stadiums up again in the summer due to further possible contagion.
There are other measures being discussed. SER add, for example, that Champions League and Europa League knockout games could be played as one-off games at neutral venues due to the lack of dates available.
