Gerard Piqué said that the team would need to adapt in order to compete

Following Sunday night's 3-0 win against Juventus in the Joan Gamper Trophy, centre back Gerard Pique stated that the side "needs to adapt and grow in other areas in order to compete" without Leo Messi in the squad.

"It's clear that, in terms of talent and magic, we won't be the same as before. When the best player in the history of the game leaves the club, we need to be realistic. We have lost a very important player, particularly for our attack, as he was a player who recorded many goals and assists".

The Catalan defender stressed that "life goes on" and said that the club's fans will "soon start to be more optimistic about our current squad".

"The sensations are good, I think. Obviously, given Leo's departure, it has been a weird day, but in general terms I think we've played really well. It gives us confidence and hope that this can be a very successful season", he added.

The centre back also spoke specifically about the club's time in Germany, stating that "it's the first time in several years that we've done a training camp. We spent more than one week abroad, all together in a hotel, and we've been working hard in the training sessions. The internationals have slowly re-joined the squad and the team is in a good place right now", he stated.
