Roma sacked manager Eusebio Di Francesco on Thursday after the team was eliminated from the Champions League by Porto.
They are struggling in Serie A, fifth, and there was talk of firing De Francesco before Wednesday, with the Porto defeat in extra-time sealing his fate.
Roma reached the Champions League semi-finals last season but were only able to get to the last 16 this time around.
They were also thrashed 7-1 by Fiorentina in the Italian Cup and 3-0 by Lazio in the Rome derby.
