The Portugal coach accepted the suspsended sentence on Tuesday

Former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has accepted a one-year prison sentence and a fine of around 2.2 million euros for tax fraud.

The Portuguese coach stood accused of avoiding paying tax on earning of around 3.3 million euros  "with the aim of obtaining illicit profits" when he was working in Spain in 2011 and 2012.

Mourinho will not serve the sentence, which will instead be exchanged for a fine of €182,500 -- in addition to the 2.2 million euro fine.

In addition, Spain doesn't tend to enforce prison sentence for first-time offenders of non-violent crimes.

Mourinho left Madrid to return to Chelsea in 2013. He was sacked by the Blues in 2015 and subsequently took over Manchester United in 2016.

He has been out of work since the end of last year, though, when he was sacked by United following a run of poor results in the Premier League.
