The second division side have had to cancel all training sessions for now

Almeria have suspended training ahead of their playoff game against Girona after someone at the club tested positive for coronavirus.

The Spanish second division side say the person who tested positive is in isolation and was asymptomatic.

Everyone involved with the first-team squad will be tested again for coronavirus on Wednesday, per La Liga protocol, before the club decides on when they can return to training.

Almeria are currently preparing for a playoff semifinal against Girona as they battle for a place in La Liga next season.

It's the latest coronavirus setback in the Spanish second tier, with the other playoff game also shrouded in controversy.

Fuenlabrada were unable to play their final game of the season against Deportivo La Coruna after various members of the squad tested positive for coronavirus.

Therefore, Elche's final day win saw them finish sixth and take the final playoff spot, however Fuenlabrada would finish sixth with a win against Depor.

That game has been unable to be played, though, with a total of 28 cases of coronavirus confirmed at Fuenlabrada in the end.

They say they are now ready to play the Depor game, although La Liga have moved on with plans for Zaragoza to host Elche.

The Spanish Football Federation may have to intervene to decide how the playoffs are completed and the final promotion place to La Liga is decided.
