Iker Casillas has sent a message of support to Spain goalkeeper David De Gea following the criticism the United stopper faced for his error in the opening match against Portugal. "I believe in David because he's one of the top four, or three, goalkeepers in the world. For one mistake you can't hang him out to dry."
Spain's current number one has faced a lot of criticism following the draw with Portugal. While there was nothing De Gea could do about the penalty or last gasp freekick, Cristiano Ronaldo's second goal should have been a routine stop. Instead he fumbled it into his own net.
Casillas has given De Gea his full backing though. "I'd like to say that I believe in De Gea. The most important part is what comes after the group stages."
And, aside from his own support, he believes De Gea has the backing of everyone in the Spanish camp. "Hierro, just like Lopetegui, completely trusts in him. But you also need to back Pepe and Kepa," added Casillas.
"I support David and Spain. What we all want is for Spain to win," he concluded.
