Fabregas will now pursue a coaching career, starting with Italian side Como

Cesc Fabregas, the former Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea player, announced his retirement from football on Saturday with a statement on social media.

The Catalan midfielder is hanging up his boots after 20 seasons as a footballer, this last one with Como 1907, a team in the Italian second division.

This is how Fàbregas announced his retirement through his social media accounts:

"After 21 seasons playing as a professional, the time has come to hang up my boots...I will never forget my early days at Arenys, Mataró, Barça, Arsenal, the return to Barça, Chelsea, Monaco and Como. I have lifted the World Cup, two European Cups, won everything in England and Spain and almost all the European trophies. It has been a journey impossible to forget. All of you who have helped me, my teammates, coaches, managers, presidents, owners, fans and my agent, a heartfelt thank you," he said.

Cesc left La Masia in 2003 to join Arsenal, where he quickly became one of the best midfielders in England and even reached the Champions League final. In 2011, he returned to Barça. After a three-year spell in LaLiga, he moved to Chelsea, where he continued to shine and win titles. In 2019, he signed for Monaco and just a year ago he signed for Como 1907.

The Catalan has also announced that he will begin his coaching career on the bench of Como 1907, working with their B and youth teams, a club in which he owns a minority stake. Fàbregas puts an end to a historic career, a player who has amazed wherever he has played and who has always shown great professionalism.
