The Pericos will be in the second tier of Spanish football again next season

Espanyol have now been mathematically relegated to the Segunda División. After their draw against Valencia on Sunday and the Cadiz's victory, Luis García's side will be a LaLiga Smartbank team next season. They have run out of options to come up with a miracle.

Espanyol did not have survival in their own hands and needed to win against Valencia and rely on the other results to stay in contention going into the 38th matchday. The draw at Mestalla ended up ending their chances of staying in the Primera Division.

Samu Lino scored the equaliser in the 93rd minute for Valencia, confirming the definitive relegation. It marks a tragic end to a season to forget. They will play at home next week against Almeria without any chance of staying up, joining Elche in the second tier.

They return to LaLiga Smartbank three seasons after their relegation in 2019-20. Next season they will try to repeat the success of returning to the Primera Division at their first attempt.
