The club condemned racism in the game following incidents in Saturday's match

Espanyol condemned the racist insults received by Athletic Bilbao's Iñaki Williams during Saturday's game between the two clubs and have launched an investigation into what happened at the RCDE Stadium.

"RCD Espanyol strongly and explicitly condemns any racism at football grounds," the Catalan club said in a statement. "The club is now investigating racist comments made towards Iñaki Williams. All our support and solidarity is with the Athletic player."

Videos have emerged of the racism suffered by Williams, which the forward had denounced during and then after the game.

"No black player or any player ever wants to hear that," Williams told Athletic's official website after the game.

"It's completely out of order, people should go to matches to enjoy themselves, to support their team; football is a team sport and should be played in a friendly atmosphere.

"It's a sad day because of these incidents which have no place in football."

La Liga president Javier Tebas has called the incidents a "step back" for Spanish football.

Espanyol also announced that they are investigating incidents prior to the game which left a supporter injured outside of the stadium.

"We also want to sent strength and support to one of our socios who was injured in events ahead of the game on the streets outside the RCDE Stadium," they added.

"RCD Espanyol of Barcelona reiterates that they condemn any kind of violence of racism. These type of attitudes have no place in football."
