Supporters have lost patience with the team, who are bottom of LaLiga

Espanyol's training ground and stadium have been sprayed with insults aimed at the players as they fight to stay in Spanish top flight.

The Barcelona side are bottom of the table, eight points from safety with seven games to play, and sacked their coach Abelardo on Saturday.

On Sunday they host Real Madrid at the RCDE Stadium, which fans have graffitied this weekend -- as well as the club's Dani Jarque training ground.

"You're not players, you're sons of a bitch," and "Playing with our passion has consequences, Barcelona is very small," were among the phrased and threats written.

Meanwhile, Abelardo, the third manager to be sacked by the club this season, will be replaced by sporting director Rufete until the end of the season.

It's far from ideal preparation for Sunday's game against league leaders Madrid. Espanyol will have to win the majority of their remaining games this season to reel in the teams above them and avoid relegation to the second division for the first time since 2004.
