The Catalan has communicated his decision to the club's owner, Chen Yansheng

Joan Francesc Ferrer, better known as Rubi, has decided to bring an end to his bried spell in charge of La Liga side Espanyol.

Rubi has communicated via video conference to the club's Chinese owner, Chen Yansheng, that he has decided to accept an offer from Real Betis.

He had a new contract offer on the table from Espanyol, who he led into the Europa League this season, but has preferred to accept Betis' offer of a three-year contract worth two million euros net annually.

There is a clause in Rubi's deal worth around one million euros which Betis will have to pay to finalise the appointment of the coach in place of Quique Setien.

The favourite to take over at Espanyol is Pablo Machin, the former Girona boss who was sacked by Sevilla earlier this season.
