Messi didn't train after taking a knock in Barça's draw with La Real

There are no major concerns, though, and the club expect him to be fine for Real Madrid

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi didn’t train on Monday with the rest of the group at the Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper.

The Blaugrana forward didn’t take part in Luis Enrique’s session because of a knock he took during the 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad at Anoeta.

It’s not a knock of any major importance, though, and it won’t rule him out of the Real Madrid game at Camp Nou. Messi will be in condition to play in Saturday’s Clasico. He worked in the gym on Monday.

Barça play in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, but Luis Enrique is likely to name a mixed squad for the game against Hercules in Alicante, leaving out a number of players who have slight problems or who he doesn’t want to risk.

The coaching staff are waiting to see how Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Andres Iniesta are throughout the week ahead of the important game against Madrid. Barça are now six points behind the leaders.

In fact, as well as Jordi Masip and Aleix Vidal returning to training on Monday, six Barça B players were also involved and should feature in the cup.
