Following Chelsea's success in the Europa League, 'Spurs' and the 'Reds' want to place the cherry on the top of English football this evening

England have spent years looking to improve their footballing setups. They enforced changes which meant homegrown stars were obligated to make up part of their first team squads.

That work is finally beginning to show. This evening Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were do battle to claim the Champions League trophy. This will be added to the Premier League's success in Europe already after Chelsea beat Arsenal in the Europa League final.

LIVERPOOL ARE FAVOURITES

All the stats suggest Jurgen Klopp's side are the clear favourites to win their sixth European Cup. They finished the season with 97 points, only good enough for second, just one point behind Pep's impressive Manchester City.

Tottenham finished fourth with 71, 26 behind their opponents this evening. The response from Liverpool in their semi-final, second leg victory over Barça only strengthens their claim as favourites.

However it won't be handed to Klopp and Liverpool. They'll need to produce another perfect (at least) 90-minute performance..

THIRD FINAL FOR KLOPP

European success is part of Liverpool's history. They've won the competition on five previous occasions but they'll need to produce a better display than the one we saw against Real Madrid last year.

That was the second Champions League final the German coach has lost. As such, he's gained an unfortunate tag of being a great 'loser' when it comes to getting his team's over the line.

He insists his side are more mature, more focused after last year's disappointment. When they lost 3-0 at the Camp Nou, everybody wrote them off. But you can't deny the spirit and belief in this Liverpool team and they responded with a 4-0 masterclass at Anfield to send Messi and company out.

Tottenham will be looking to make history. They've knocked out previous favourites Manchester City and then surprise-package Ajax, who beat Real Madrid and Juventus. For Pochettino and his team, they have the chance to win their first ever Champions League title.

A lack of experience might be significent for Spurs but that's why Pochettino is one of the best around. He demands - and gets - the best from his squad and makes them play with such confidence.

Only one side can lift the trophy but, whatever happens, England - and the Premier League - are the major winners.
