Official: How Champions League will be played to a conclusion in Lisbon

UEFA confirmed on Wednesday the new format for this season's Champions League: the quarterfinals, semifinals and final will all be played in Lisbon in August over one game. 

The four quarterfinals will be played on separate days, spread out between August 12th and August 15th, with the semifinals due to take place on August 18 and August 19. The final has been set for August 23rd at Benfica's Stadium of Light. 

However, there has not yet been a definitive decision on the remaining last 16 games, including Barcelona's tie against Napoli. The other ties still to be completed are Man City-Real Madrid, Bayern-Chelsea and Juventus-Lyon. 

UEFA have confirmed that the games will be played on either August 7th, 8th or 9th but have not yet decided if they will be played where they were originally scheduled to be played -- for Barça that means Camp Nou after a 1-1 first leg draw in Italy. 

A decision will be made in July and will be dependent on how the coronavirus pandemic has evolved across Europe. An alternate solution is for the remaining games to be played in the north of Portugal. 

Already into the last eight are Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Atalanta and Paris Saint-Germain. 

Meanwhile, European Super Cup, which pits the Champions League winners against the Europa League winners, will take place in Budapest on Sept. 24th. 

Europa League & WoMEN'S CL 

Elsehwere, the Europa League, from the last eight on, will be played in a similar format to the Champions League but in Germany. As with the last 16 ties in the Champions League, UEFA will make a final decision on how to complete the last 16 ties next month. 

In addition, the women's Champions League will be played to completion in Bilbao and San Sebastian. Barça have a game against Atletico for a place in the semifinal. The final is set to be played on August 30th.
