Neymar undergoes successful surgery on fractured metatarsal
The Brazilian had an operation on Saturday
He will be out for up to three months in total
Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar was successfully operated on in Belo Horizonte, at the Mater Dei hospital, on Saturday -- the surgery was on the Brazilian's fractured metatarsal.
It's expected that Neymar will be able to leave hospital on Sunday and to begin his recovery, which should take around three months. The target is to reach this summer's World Cup in top shape.
“The operation led by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar went perfectly well," a statement from PSG said. "It consisted of the insertion of a screw placed at the level of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal.
“Rehabilitation will begin immediately under the supervision of the physiotherapist of the club. A report will be made in six weeks to specify the possible date of resumption of training.”
Neymar picked up the injury in last weekend's win over Marseille and is unlikely to play for PSG again this season, which means they will be without him for the Champions League game against Real Madrid.
The former Barcelona forward flew back to his homeland for the surgery, where he will remain for now as he focuses on getting fit for the World Cup in Russia.
