The wing back scored the only goal of the game against Man United at Old Trafford

Atletico Madrid pulled off a classic performance at Old Trafford to knock Manchester United out of the Champions League and reach the quarter-finals.

Goalkeeper Jan Oblak made several fine saves and Renan Lodi’s goal at the other end made the difference.

The wingback headed home Antoine Griezmann’s cross after fine work from Joao Felix, continuing a fine run of goalscoring form.

"We are really disappointed with the result. It's difficult to put into words how we feel now at the moment. We did not enough in both games to win it. It's a very disappointing day for us,” said David de Gea.

"They are a team with a lot of experience. They know how to play those Champions League games. They scored a goal then are a tough team so it was hard for us to create chances. We are out of one of the most important competitions so we are very sad."

Simeone was pelted with drinks as he ran down the tunnel at full-time, but the Argentine coach won’t care after a perfect night for him and his team, keeping old enemy Cristiano Ronaldo silent all evening.

Oblak too will feel vindicated after a tough season to date, but his fine saves from Anthony Elanga, Raphael Varane and others helped Atletico progress.
