Man City 1-0 Inter Milan: Pep Guardiola's side triumph to clinch treble

Rodri’s goal earned Manchester City Champions League victory over Inter Milan and helped Pep Guardiola and his team complete their first treble.

A tight game was settled by Rodri’s strike from just inside the area after a deflected ball fell into his path.

Inter came close as they chased the equaliser, with Romelu Lukaku denied by a fine Ederson save from close range, while the Belgian striker inadvertently blocked an effort from team-mate Federico DiMarco, who had hit the bar but then nodded the rebound back towards goal.

"It wasn't easy. What a team we faced, the way they defend and counter-attack. We gave everything. I wasn't good in the first half, I was playing shit,” said Rodri.

"Finals are like this. You can't expect to play well as always. Emotions and nerves are there. We competed like animals. We want more. More ambition. It's a dream. This moment will never happen again. We hope next year but we deserve to celebrate.”

After Man United won the treble in 1999, City became only the second English side to manage the feat, following up their Premier League and FA Cup triumphs with victory in Istanbul at the Ataturk Stadium.

Guardiola, however, was winning his second treble after managing the feat in 2009 with Barcelona. This was his third Champions League triumph.
