Jurgen Klopp's side are in a commanding position after the first leg

A stunning first half performance from Liverpool left Manchester City on the brink of Champions League elimination on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s flew out of the blocks at Anfield and took the lead through top scorer Mohamed Salah, who is enjoying a fine first season with Liverpool.

The home side doubled the lead minutes later when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fired home from outside the box.

Pep Guardiola’s misery was complete before half-time when Saido Mane added a third, converting Salah’s cross.

City improved after the break but were unable to find what would have been a vital away goal to take into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next week.

However, Liverpool were dealt a blow, with Salah taken off injured in the second half.
