Goodbye to five years of Spanish football's European domination
Real Madrid and Barcelona have won the last five Champions League trophies
Barcelona's whipping at Anfield ended Spanish football's vice-like grip in the Champions League.
This year Liverpool, Tottenham or Ajax will write their name on the trophy.
The last time a Spanish did didn't win was in 2012-13, when Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Wembley.
In May 2014 Real Madird beat Atletico Madrid 4-1 in the final and started five glorious years for Spain.
Barca won in 2014-15, beating Juventus 3-1 in the final.
Atletico were back in the 2015-16 season, losing again to Real Madrid on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Madrid beat Juventus in Cardiff in 2016-17, 4-1, then triumphed 3-1 over Liverpool in Kiev last year.
But on June 1, at the Wanda Metropolitano, 1,834 days later, a non Spanish team will become Champions of Europe.
