Dortmund 2-2 Sevilla (5-4 agg): Haaland double enough in thriller

Sevilla nearly forced extra-time but in the end Haaland's magic was too much

Sevilla fought hard and nearly got their just rewards but Borussia Dortmund and phenomenon Erling Haaland were just too good in the end.

The visitors dominated fort he first half an hour in Germany, but with one of his first touches in Sevilla’s area, Haaland put the hosts ahead.

The Norwegian striker finished from close range after 35 minutes to break the deadlock.

He then doubled the lead eight minutes into the second half, from the penalty spot, although there was an entertaining series of events that led to the goal.

Haaland, in tank-like fashion had barged his way through and scored brilliantly, but the goal was ruled out for a foul. However VAR reviewed an earlier incident and a penalty was awarded.

Bono saved Haaland’s effort but VAR (again) showed he was off his line and the kick was retaken. This time he buried it, beating the keeper by inches, giving Dortmund a commanding lead.

Sevilla still fought their way back in, though, with En-Nesyri blasting home a penalty and then scoring in the 96th minute to make it 2-2 on the night. They had a chance to level the tie and send the game to extra-time, but nobody seemed willing to shoot and Hitz caught a late cross to end the game. A valiant effort from Sevilla in the end, but it was too little, too late.
