Barça will find out their Last 16 opponents in the Champions League today

Today FC Barcelona will find out who their opponents are in the Last 16 of the Champions League. The draw takes place in Nyon, Switzerland at midday and Ernesto Valverde's side know that the second leg of the tie will be played at the Camp Nou after finishing top of their group.

The only sides Barça cannot face in the next round are Tottenham Hotspur, who were in the same group as Valverde's team, and Atletico Madrid as you can't play against teams from the same country.

This means the possible opponents for Barcelona are: Liverpool, Ajax, Schalke 04, Olympique Lyon, Roma and Manchester United. 

The stand out option is perhaps Roma, with revenge being the main motive. It was the Italians who destroyed Barça's European dream last season and plenty of members in the squad are desperate to prove it was a one off. As for sides to avoid the most obvious one would be last season's beaten finalists Liverpool, who are currently top of the Premier League.

A meeting with Ajax would allow the team and supporters a closer look at transfer targets De Jong and De Ligt. The Dutch pair both dream of playing at the Camp Nou and a Last 16 clash could be a preview of what's to come in their future.

Jose Mourinho's Manchester United are another option. The team has lost its way in recent years, both domestically and in Europe, but you always need to be cautious when you come up against a wounded animal. They still have players such as Pogba, Rashford, De Gea, Alexis, Lukaku and Martial who can make the difference.

The easiest draws on paper would be Lyon or Schalke 04, although both are perhaps less appealing to supporters. However as long as they progress to the next round no one will complain too much. All that matters for Barça this season is reclaiming their throne in Europe's biggest competition.
