AC Milan 1-2 Atletico Madrid: Griezmann and Suarez turn it around

The former Barcelona duo struck in Italy to help Simeone out of a hole

Antoine Griezmann scored his first Atletico Madrid goal against AC Milan as Diego Simeone’s side came from behind to beat the 10-man Italians.

The hosts had played well at the San Siro but were undone by a late Luis Suarez penalty, as he ended his drought away from home in the Champions League.

Milan had dominated the game in the first half and Rafael Leao scored a fine opener and then hit the bar with a remarkable overhead kick.

However Milan were reduced to 10 men when Franck Kessie was given a harsh red card for a second booking before the half hour mark.

Simeone rang the changes, bringing on Griezmann, and he finished coolly to put the Spaniards on level terms.

Another harsh decision for handball gave Atletico a last gasp penalty and Suarez stroked it down the middle.

After a draw with Porto in the opening game at home, this was a hugely welcome result for Simeone and Co.
