The Real Madrid defender has come out in support of Iniesta who has been one of the most criticised players for Spain at this World Cup

Dani Carvajal, Spain's right back, has lauded the role of Andres Iniesta in Spain's camp. The former Barcelona captain has been criticised by sections of the media in Madrid but now one of the players for his great rival, Real Madrid, has come out in defence of Iniesta.

"With Iniesta, there are too many things to say about him. He's our star, our commander," the right back told the media. He also had words of praise for Isco, calling him one of the team's "leaders" when the opposition are tough to break down. "He looks to shoot, to pass. He's having an incredible World Cup and I hope he continues to play as well going forward."

There has also been criticism directed at other players such as David Silva but Carvajal's response was the same. "To everyone who is singled out or questions our football, players such as Silva, the same as Iniesta and Isco, are the ones who make the difference."

On a personal level, Carvajal acknowledges he was very close to losing his place at the World Cup after picking up an injury in the Champions League final. "Every ten minutes, before I play or train, I remember that final in Kiev. I remember that I'm here and I'm more determined than ever. When you see yourself out of the group and now you're back with your teammates, you feel so fortunate."

Carvajal was asked about Schuster's comments on Fernando Hierro not being up to the task of leading Spain at the World Cup. He, like his teammates, backed the current coach: "Hierro is more than capable of being our coach. I disagree with what Schuster said. Hierro is a great coach and we'll fight to the death for him."
