Mario Gotze: There was no empathy with Pep Guardiola
The Dortmund midfielder preferred playing under Jurgen Klopp
Mario Gotze, the player who scored the winning goal for German at the last World Cup, has spoken to DANZ about his career so far.
On Pep Guardiola, who he played under at Bayern Munich, he had praise for the Catalan coach, but he said there was a lack of empathy.
"Technically he is one of the best coaches," Gotze explained. "But I had the feeling that he thinks only the pitch and leaves out the people and the outside. The empathy was not that big."
As for Jurgen Klopp, who he played under at Borussia Dortmund, he said: "When I decided to leave Bayern, he was interested in taking me to Liverpool. And I also wanted to work with him again.
"In fact, that's still a desire of mine. He's a world-class coach and for that reason, it's always an option. In the end, I opted for Dortmund, but it was nothing against Liverpool or Klopp."
Asked to compare Guardiola and Klopp, he added: "It was not easy for me [under Pep], just because I came from Kloppo, who was like a footballing father.
"Pep was completely different. A world-class coach needs empathy, every athlete is also human and you should combine both."
