The Norway star is likely to leave BVB in the coming years for a bigger stage

Erling Haaland is already one of the best strikers in Europe. Lothar Matthäus predicts a huge future for the Borussia Dortmund frontman.

The former Germany international sees him moving on to one of Europe's more traditionally big clubs in the not too distant future.

"Borussia Dortmund are one of the 10 best teams in Europe but there are five or six that have better teams and that's where he will go at some point." Matthäus told Sky90.

"I am thinking about the great clubs, not necessarily Bayern Munich, because Robert Lewandowski will probably play for two or three more years and Halaland probably won't stay at Dortmund so long."

If not Bayer, he suggested some alternatives: "But there's Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City or (Liverpool with Jurgen) Klopp, who's looking for a successor to Firmino."

Haaland left RB Salzburg for BVB at the start of the year. So far, in 27 games for the German side, he has scored 24 goals at the age of 20.

Christoph Freund, the sporting director who took him from Molde FK to Salzburg in 2019, is also full of praise for Haaland.

"He can play for every club in the world," he said. "With his mentality, desire and self-confidence, he can leave a mark on European football over the next 10 years."
