The former Spain midfielder is currently coaching Real Sociedad's B team

Former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has been offered the chance to take over German side Borussia Monchengladbach next season, according to Bild.

Alonso, who is currently in charge of Real Sociedad's B team, knows the country well having spent three seasons playing for Bayern Munich before retiring.

He's currently focused on helping La Real's reserves gain promotion into the second division of Spanish football. They top their regionalised group in the third tier.

Monchengladbach are one of the biggest sides in Germany and were recently knocked out of the Champions League to Manchester City.

They are currently 10th in the Bungesliga but have seen their form tail off in recent weeks following confirmation that coach Marco Rose will leave at the end of the season for Borussia Dortmund.

Therefore, they are currently looking for a new coach for next season and ex-Spain international Alonso is at the top of their list.
