The Catalan's minutes have reduced with the arrival of Peter Stoger

A return to Spain could be on the cards this month for the defender

Surprising could be the best word to descrive the news coming out in Germany regarding Marc Bartra's future. According to reports, Borussia Dortmund have put the Catalan defender on the transfer market and he could even leave the club this month.

Bartra, who joined Dortmund in 2016 from Barcelona for €8 million, is in his second season with the Bundesliga club. At first, he played under Thomas Tuchel and then under Peter Bosz. But things have changed since Peter Stoger replaced the latter.

The Austrian coach has not counted on Bartra, who has disappeared from the starting lineups and sometimes even from the squad, as was the case last weekend against Wolfsburg. It's an identical situation to the one Neven Subotic finds himself in, too. The signing of Basel defender Manuel Akanjo for €22m leave them both wondering about their future.

Bartra has to think about his future and his place in the Spain squad for the World Cup. If he wants to go to Russia, Julen Lopetegui needs him to be playing regular football.

A return to La Liga could be the solution to the situation, although other clubs from around Europe may be interested in a player with such an established reputation.
