Xavi has Barcelona release clause in new Al Sadd contract

Pierde hasta el zapato: monumental enfado de Xavi en su estreno oficial como técnico / | SPORT.es

The Catalan coach has signed a short contract extension with the Qatar club

Xavi has extended his contract with Al Sadd by an additional season but SPORT have learned that a clause has been included that would allow him to leave at any moment.

The former Barcelona midfielder has agreed on a new deal to coach the Qatari side until June 2021, timing with presidential elections at Barcelona. He has never hidden his desire to coach in the Camp Nou dugout.

With the release clause in his deal, Xavi would be able to rescind his contract and accelerate a move to Barça if he decided he wanted to.

Remember, president Josep Maria Bartomeu tried to appoint him in January as Ernesto Valverde's replacement but Xavi declined the offer as the moment was not right.

If Quique Setien doesn't remain in charge, Bartomeu could move for Xavi again, although Xavi would need significant promises to consider the job in the short-term.
