The Catalan's deal will run until there are elections at Barcelona

Xavi Hernandez will continue as Al Sadd coach for another season. The Qatari club made the announcement on Sunday that the former Barcelona midfielder has extended his contract until the end of the 2020-21 campaign, which is when elections are set to be held at Camp Nou for a new president.

Xavi, 40, has never hidden his intention to return home to Can Barça after his adventure in the Middle East. In fact, in recent days he explained that his coaching staff are already working hard to prepare for the top job at Barcelona.

The ex-Spain international signed for Al Sadd is a player in 2015 upon leaving Barça. After four seasons on the pitch, he took over in the dugout in 2019.

In an exclusive statement to Al Sadd's website, Xavi said that he was happy to renew his deal, adding that “my complete focus in this current period is to fully equip the players for the upcoming domestic and Asian competitions.”

He also stated that he is working with the club’s management during the current period on a number of issues, the most important of which is the renewal of Akram Afif’s contract, in addition to signing foreign players to replace Gabi and Marco Fabian.

Xavi added: “I am happy that the squad is complete today after the return of the remaining first-team players, in preparation for this upcoming period and the resumption of the league championship.”

“I am happy to continue with Al-Sadd, and the team’s goal will always be to compete for all titles."
