Why do Paris Saint-Germain want to sell Neymar?

From the paternal president, who offered Cavani money to let Neymar take penalties at Paris Saint-Germain, to very publicly warning the Brazilian about his future at the club. In just two years, Neymar's gone from being the PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi's star signing, his name adorning the Eiffel Tower, to someone he is looking to shift. There are the reasons for the divorce:

1.- Living with Mbappe

Mbappe or Neymar. There's no room for two No.1s in 2020. The growth of the French World Cup winner, who wants to lead PSG's project, has forced the club to take a drastic decision. Due to his age -- Kylian is 20, Neymar 27 -- and the fact he's the local idol, it make more sense to go for Mbappe. That means the Brazilian must be sacrificed. In addition, the relationship between the two, which was good at first, has began to wilter in recent months. An example: after the French Cup final, Neymar surprised when he asked, in the mixed zone, the younger players to listen to the advice of the veterans... a message directed at the young world champions.  

2.- Perks have worn thin

Ney's always been clear that his stay in Paris is temporary. He's made use of the perks he has been afforded on an almost daily basis. However, gradually that has served to undermine the owners and their patience is now wearing thin. One of the most famous episodes was the intervention of the Brazil national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, to treat Neymar's metatarsal injury in 2018 before the World Cup. It generated a war between the CBF and PSG. Neymar has managed to wear down the club's hierarchy while maintaining a relationship with coach Thomas Tuchel over the last season, something which was not the case with Unai Emery, who was reminded by the Brazilian on a daily basis who was the real 'boss.' 

3.- Project not growing

Demotivated and injured, Neymar's lost two years of his career in Paris, where he's missed decisive Champions League games in both seasons. Neymar didn't miss big games due to fitness issues in the first five years of his career. In Paris, that all changed: two injuries which both required surgery ruled him out of the key stage of the season. And without Ney, PSG have blown up in Europe twice. 

The thing with the injuries -- he's now been ruled out of the Copa America -- could get better in his third year in Paris, but it's not intangible with his happiness, which is what Brazilians have always needed to succeed. In Qatar, PSG's owners have realised that it doesn't serve for anything to keep trying with their star signing, who hasn't hit the heights he hit in Barcelona. 

4.- Lack of identification 

With oil money, PSG paid Neymar's 222 million euros release clause but money cannot buy anything and it didn't buy Neymar's full commitment. From very early on, the Brazilian realised he'd made a mistake going to a smaller league, with more limited players and more violent opponents, paying for a nouveau-rich club who are completely different to Barcelona. Neymar's lack of enthusiasm has become an affront to the pride of the Qataris. 

5.- Financial Fair Play

The rebuilding of the squad which coach Tuchel wants -- and Qatar demands -- to be able totackle the Champions League needs to be done with Financial Fair Play ruled in mind. PSG have been in UEFA's view for a while, with a number of investigations following their splurge on Neymar and Mbappe in 2017. Bringing in money for Neymar would allow them to strengthen elsewhere while complying with FFP as they look to build a team around Mbappe. Matthijs de Ligt and Philippe Coutinho are both options for the Ligue 1 champions.
