Luis Enrique's former assistant claims Leo will have thought long and hard before deciding he wants to leave Barça

Luis Enrique's former assistant at FC Barcelona, Juan Carlos Unzue, has given his thoughts on Lionel Messi's future plans.

"The decision he has made isn't a heat of the moment thing, it'll be something he's thought about and will have his reasons for reaching that conclusion," he told Cadena SER's 'Què T'hi Jugues!'.

However, Unzue was surprised that Leo had decided to leave Barça. "I always thought that Messi would finish his career at Barcelona. I want to believe this decision wasn't easy for him to make."

No problem if Messi has to stay

If Messi doesn't leave the club this summer, Unzue is confident it won't be an issue for either party. "He won't be a problem. He's going to have the same ambition he had since he was 16. His desire to win and impress supporters if he stays will make everyone happy."

The difference between Messi and the rest is he's still ambitious to keep winning, even after he's won it all. When he finally retires, we'll value the fact he's maintained himself as the 'top 1' for so many years," insists Unzue.
