Pique was furious with the official's decision to send off Lenglet on Sunday
Gerard Pique exercised his role as one of Barcelona's four captains during the break against Girona on Sunday as he exchanged words with Gil Manzano. The Catalan defender crossed with the referee on the walk back to the tunnel over the decision to send Clement Lenglet off. Pique felt the decision was unfair and remarked that "it's that it's clearly (not a red)."
Pique protested to the match official: "You honestly think that there's intention? That [Girona] fouled him and he...?" Gil Manzao replied to the centre-back: "Listen to me, he hung his elbow out and he knows it. It's not that the elbow's there, it's that he put it there..."
The Barça player was not happy with the answer. "Honestly... history speaks for itself." A negative history or Barça. As an example, Gil Manzano has sent off four Barça player in the last three years: Dani Alves (2015), Neymar (2017) and Luis Suarez (2017), prior to Lenglet. In addition, Suarez missed the Copa del Rey final because of the red car he received in the last four against Atletico Madrid.
