'The Sun': Man City ready to break all records to lure Messi away from Barcelona

Reports in England insist the Premier League club have not given up hope of signing Messi

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are ready to break the market and make a record bid for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

According to The Sun, the English club have been in contact with Barça to show their interest in signing the Argentine international, who is out of contract in 2018.

While there's no formal offer, City are ready to spend up to 115 million euros and would even go about the 120 million Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba in the summer.

The English newspaper report that Barça, though, have refused to put a price on Messi. However, they've not refused to listen to what the Premier League side have to offer, giving hope to City's hieratchy.

The Sun say the tough moment Guardiola's team are going through is the main reason City are looking at going big in the market.

In addition, they point out the excellent relationship between the Catalan coach and Messi, who he helped to grow as a player when he was Blaugrana manager.

Messi, whose contract ends in 18 months, would also receive a tempting offer from City: 900,000 euros a week.
