The Belgian defender is out of contract at Man City in the summer

Belgian defender Vincent Kompany is the latest player to be linked with Barcelona as they potentially look to strengthen their defence.

According to the British tabloid The Sun, the Blaugrana are interested in signing the veteran centre-back -- his Manchester City contract expires on June 30.

Barça are analysing the market as they decide whether to make a signing in defence as Samuel Umtiti struggled with a knee problem.

One of the options is to sign an experienced defender on a short-term deal. Kompany would fit that profile perfectly.

A Man City source cited by The Sun said "there are strong rumours about Barcelona's interest" in Kompany.

Kompany, 32, is in his 11th season at City. He hopes to continue with the club when he eventually retires but talks are still ongoing over a new deal as he looks to continue his playing career. City are only ready to offer one year, but he would like longer and is weighing up his options.

The Belgium international has had a lot of problems with injuries and hasn't played regularly this season. Last year he suffered three injuries and was injured again at the World Cup in Russia.
