Marc Overmars continues to stick to his guns and says that Frenkie De Jong will not leave Ajax this summer

FC Barcelona have been met with yet another negative by Ajax as they continue their pursuit of Frankie De Jong. The sporting department at Barça are still trying to convince Marc Overmars to change his stance and allow the player to leave this summer.

The chief negotiators at Barcelona have been in contact with Ajax and hoped to sit down and talk with the Dutch club either today or tomorrow.

However Overmars' answer remains the same: Frenkie De Jong is part of Ajax coach Erik ten Hag's plans for the 2018/19 season and they have no intention of selling the young midfielder this summer.

Barça changed their plans and didn't send anyone out to watch Ajax's victory over Sturm Graz at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Barcelona's strategy is also unlikely to change: respect Ajax and their current objective, which is to quality for the group stages of the Champions League, but to also pressure Overmas into opening the door for a transfer this summer once Ajax have achieved their goal.

The hope is that once Ajax have their European future resolved, they'll be more open to negotiating with Barça knowing that De Jong wants to move to the Camp Nou. De Jong himself admitted after the match that Barcelona were interested in him and asked for time so that he could concentrate on Ajax for now.
