Marco Verratti was back in Paris and back in work on Friday

Barça and his agent are still agitating for a move to Camp Nou

Marco Verratti returned to Paris Saint-Germain on Friday as expected to begin work under Unai Emery ahead of the new season.

Verratti, who in the last week has tried to convince the club, unsuccessfully, to open talks with Barcelona, decided not to push things too far by not returning to training.

Instead of refusing to turn up and being declared a rebel, he has gone back to the training ground but is still hopeful of convincing president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Antero Henrique to listen to Barça's offer.

The first images of Verratti back in Paris have arrived on social media, with his team-mate Layvin Kurzawa uploading a video to his Instagram account.

Verratti's return comes on a day when a lot has been said about his future, by Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his agent Donato Di Campli.

Di Campli even went as far as to say that his client is like a prisoner in Paris, while Bartomeu confirmed Barça's desire to sign the player and the player's wish to come to Barcelona.

He told SPORT: "Verratti is a player we like. Robert [Fernandez] wants him to come, as do [Ernesto] Valverde and Pep] Segura. And we know that the player wants to come to Barca. The problem is that PSG have now told us they don’t want to negotiate.

"The fact there is no release clause is a problem because you can’t go there and sign a player. For that reason, if the club don’t want to sell, as is the case here: ‘we don’t want to sell, we don’t want to sit down with you, we will talk about whatever you want, but not about Verratti."
