There is an arguement he should be rested and protected to play Atletico Madrid

The debate is open: should Luis Suarez play for Barcelona on Thursday against UD Las Palmas? The Uruguayan has four yellow cards (one away from suspension) and on Sunday March 4, Barcelona host Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou - their main title rivals.

Barcelona's universe is divided. Should Suarez play or not against Alaves? Some say he should not run any risk and not even travel.

The striker has 20 goals in La Liga, more than anyone bar Leo Messi, so would be important as Barcelona travel to Gran Canaria for the game.

Those who do not want Suarez to play would pick Paco Alcacer in his stead, a player left out of the squad for the last two games.

However others say Suarez should start, because the three points at Las Palmas are just as important as those against Atletico. Valverde says the team must go step by step, game by game, and to think about a match beyond the next is an error.

In any case, Valverde will have the last word. The decision will be taken on Tuesday after training - and it will likely be a consensual one with Suarez.

Obviously the Uruguayan is capable of playing and not getting booked, but it can all change in a second. The most logical thing might be to take him and start with Suarez on the bench.
