Samuel Umtiti's future has become a priority for Barcelona. The defender has big offers from elsewhere and, so far, is not close to agreeing to a new Camp Nou deal -- although his gesture against Roma leads to optimism.

Barça and Umtiti's people plan to meet soon to talk terms. The France international's contract runs until 2021 but his 60 million euro release clause makes him a target for Europe's biggest clubs. He has offers on the table, as he has admitted himself.

The terms of those offers are more than Barça have offered so far. The idea now is for everything to be sorted out within a month, given the Catalan club must plan for life without him if he's going to leave. Although they're convinced an agreement will be reached.

Umtiti's left negotiations in the hands of his people, who have been tough to deal with so far. Despite that, the player's relationship with the club and, above all, with sporting director Robert Fernandez is fluid and conversations are constant.

It will be Umtiti himself who has the final say over the most crucial decision of his career. He wants Barça to value his performances and to improve his salary to reflect the fact he's now a regular.

But Barça don't want to get into a price war because of the offers he has on the table. Umtiti, though, knows that only at Barça is he guaranteed to be fighting for trophies every year.

For that reason, he's reluctant to sign for Manchester United, who have made the biggest offer so far. There are other offers but Barça are hopeful and a decision will be made within a month.
